The Saranac Lake Central School District Board of Education announced Tuesday that Joshua Dann will serve as the district’s next superintendent, beginning July 1, 2026.

Tri-Lakes Town Square first reported on April 28 that the board had selected a finalist but would not publicly name the candidate until an employment contract was signed.

Dann currently serves as Principal of Saranac Lake High School and has spent more than 20 years in the district. He has also served as Principal of Petrova Elementary School and Dean of Students at Saranac Lake Middle School, giving him experience across all grade levels. He began his career as an elementary teacher in Syracuse and holds advanced certification in educational leadership from Syracuse University.

In His Own Words

“I am truly honored and humbled to serve as the next superintendent of the Saranac Lake Central School District,” Dann said in a statement. “Saranac Lake is a community that cares deeply about its students, its staff and families. As superintendent, my focus will remain on supporting our students and staff, and continuing to build a culture where everyone feels valued and connected. I’m excited for what lies ahead and proud to continue serving this incredible community.”

The Search Process

Finalist candidates participated in interviews with stakeholder groups including faculty, staff, students, families, and community members. The board cited Dann’s deep understanding of the district, proven leadership experience, and strong relationships with students and staff as the basis for the selection.

Dann succeeds Superintendent Diane Fox, who is retiring after 13 years leading the district. The SLCSD budget vote is May 19.
