SLCSD Board Has Chosen Its Next Superintendent. They Are Not Saying Who Yet.

The Saranac Lake Central School District Board of Education announced Thursday that it has selected a finalist to succeed retiring Superintendent Diane Fox — but is declining to name the candidate until an employment agreement is finalized.

The selection was made during the board April 23 meeting, according to a press release issued April 24. The district said the candidate name will be publicly announced following the successful negotiation of an initial employment agreement.

Fox is retiring after 13 years leading the district. The board had narrowed the search to two finalists — SLCSD High School Principal Josh Dann and Lisa Ruud, a current superintendent from Vermont. It is not known which candidate was selected.

The announcement comes weeks before the district annual budget vote on May 19, when residents will also elect two school board members. The incoming superintendent will inherit a $39.8 million transitional budget that cuts approximately seven positions through attrition and closes Bloomingdale Elementary School.

The Board said it appreciates the engagement and support of the school community throughout the search process and looks forward to sharing more information in the near future.
