Saranac Lake Man Sentenced to 25 Years to Life for Predatory Sexual Assault of a Child

William J. Strack II, 38, of Saranac Lake, has been sentenced to 25 years to life in state prison for predatory sexual assault of a child — the maximum sentence available under New York law.

Strack, who lived at the Algonquin Apartments at 240 George Lapan Highway, was arrested in October 2025 by the Saranac Lake Police Department on 12 felony charges including rape, incest, and sexual abuse of a child. In March 2026, he pleaded guilty to predatory sexual assault of a child before Franklin County Court Judge Craig Carriero. He was sentenced this week.

Prosecutors said Strack admitted to a course of sexual contact against a child under 13 years old over approximately four years. Franklin County District Attorney Elizabeth Crawford prosecuted the case and said it is unlikely he will ever be released. “We just want to make sure everybody out there knows that we’re coming for you if you want to do awful things to children,” Crawford said at the time of the guilty plea.

Federal, state, and county law enforcement were all involved in the investigation. The Clinton Essex Franklin County Child Advocacy Center and Franklin County Child Protective Services also assisted.

“This sentence sends a strong message that crimes against children will not be tolerated in our community,” said Saranac Lake Police Chief Darin Perrotte.

Strack also faces federal charges — eight counts of sexual exploitation of children for producing child sexual abuse material involving three adolescent victims between the ages of 8 and 15. A federal jury trial is scheduled for July 13.
