VFW Auxiliary and Girl Scouts Place Flags on Veterans’ Graves Ahead of Memorial Day
Members of VFW Auxiliary Post 3357 joined Girl Scout troops from Saranac Lake and Bloomingdale to place flags on Auxiliary members’ graves at Pine Ridge and St. Bernard’s cemeteries. Scouts earned a patch for their vests.
VFW Auxiliary Post 3357 and Girl Scout Service Unit 453 — Troop 4026 of Saranac Lake and Troop 4317 of Bloomingdale — placed flags on the graves of deceased Auxiliary members at Pine Ridge Cemetery and St. Bernard’s Cemetery ahead of Memorial Day.
For their participation in the service project, VFW Auxiliary members earned a Girl Scout patch for their vests.

This is the third year the groups have partnered for the tradition. Scouts met at Pine Ridge Cemetery at 5pm for flag placing, then moved to St. Bernard’s Cemetery, before finishing the evening at the VFW with pizza.
The project was organized as both a patch opportunity and a community service event. “The girls really seem to enjoy it and it’s a good feeling to give back,” organizers said.
Memorial Day is Monday, May 26.
