A Saranac Lake Officer Won Franklin County’s Top DWI Enforcement Award for the Second Year in a Row. On the Way There, She Stopped to Help an Injured Man.
Officer Gabrielle Buckley of the Saranac Lake Police Department received the Franklin County Traffic Safety Award for most impaired driving arrests for the second consecutive year. She also stopped to help an injured man on the way to the ceremony.
A Saranac Lake Police Department officer received the Franklin County Traffic Safety Award for the most impaired driving arrests in the department for the second consecutive year at the annual ceremony Thursday evening in Malone.
Officer Gabrielle Buckley was one of 11 officers from seven agencies across Franklin County honored at this year’s ceremony, which was sponsored by the Franklin County Traffic Safety Board. Officers are nominated by their own agency leadership and recognized for making the most arrests under the state’s Vehicle and Traffic laws, including DWI enforcement.
Buckley was also recognized for her ongoing work with the driver’s education program at Saranac Lake High School, where she has volunteered regularly alongside her enforcement duties.
Before the evening was over, she had already added to her record. On her way to Malone, Buckley was flagged down and stopped to render medical aid to an elderly man who had been injured while working in his yard. She remained on scene until he was cared for.
The Saranac Lake Police Department posted the announcement to Facebook Thursday evening: “Officer Buckley went above and beyond in the name of public safety as our Officers so often do. We are proud of her efforts.”
The Franklin County Traffic Safety Board is a volunteer body established under New York State Vehicle and Traffic Law that meets monthly to address traffic safety concerns across the county. The annual awards ceremony is one of its primary public events.
